Well heres the thing, alot of people go through the situation you are in and its just a fact of life. and your friend is right though in some cases. if you guys dont talk for a long time then you MIGHT fall for him, nothing is definite. ever heard of the saying "distance makes the heart grow fonder?" thats where that comes from. Just wait ands let things pan out and you'll get through it. trust me. Time and space heals most things.
