Black beans are commonly served as side dish with rice in Brazil and Cuba. You should cook the beans as directed in the package (as someone mentioned here, leave soaking overnight etc). I usually use a pressure cook so it is faster. Add enough water so that you have a sauce. After it is cooked, you have to season. In a separate pan saute onion, garlic, bay leaves, and add the beans with sauce. Salt to taste. I don't eat pork, but if you do you could add bacon. Serve with white plain rice.
