Is it true that if you are a right winger, you likely don't believe presidents should care what polls say?

I keep hearing over and over from right wingers, whenever the fact that Bush does not read newspapers or rely on polls that indicate what the american people think is brought up....the right wingers say something to the extent that they prefer a strong leader who does what he thinks is best regardless of how unpopular it its blah blah blah....which sounds good, but it also reminds me of something I once read that Hitler said...that "decisions are best made by one man or the few and the great majority of citizens are too stupid to even begin to know what is best for the country". Ok....well, at least we can agree that this is yet another thing that the right wingers have in common with Hitler's nazis....that they prefer a strong leader who does what he wants regardless of what the people think..a very anti "democracy concept" to be sure...if not outright fascism.
