Bit my tongue...ouch ! Help?

I bit my tongue about two weeks ago, the next day I got a white patch on the same place I bit the tongue...it is like a canker sore but it is bigger and different than the canker sores I usually have..it was very painful but now the pain is gone but the patch is still there...what is this patch? should I be scared ?
