The Sims 3: Can't change active household after World Adventures?

I got world adventures and I started having the problem where when you change active households it goes to a view of sunset valley with no UI and you have to quit using the task manager. I've patched it to 2.3 and the problem persists. I've reinstalled many times, but nothing seems to work... does anyone have a solution or a workaround? also when I'm in create a sim, everything is normal until I get to changing traits where there are none to be selected, and I can't select a lifetime wish... basically I can't play the game. Pleeease help
